PLG Arts is pleased to announce our first music event at Erv’s on Beekman. Yes, that’s Erv’s at 2122 Beekman Place, with full bar and now serving fresh Vietnamese eats,* too!
Mughal Muesli — While grounded in the saxophone trio tradition of Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman, and Henry Threadgill, Mughal Muesli is a band that seeks to expand and transcend the associations attached to their configuration. Saxophonist Xavier Del Castillo, drummer Vicente Hansen, and bassist Mat Muntz draw on elements from early European polyphony, Hindustani classical music, and 20th/21st century microtonality to inform their unique take on the trio format. Their debut album, “Imperial Cereal,” features original compositions, deconstructed standards, and new interpretations of works by Ornette Coleman, Ivan Wyschnegradsky, and J. S. Bach. The members of Mughal Muesli have played as a group and individually everywhere from the hallowed halls of Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall to renowned jazz venues such as The Jazz Gallery and Cornelia St. Cafe, as well as experimental havens like The Stone and National Sawdust. https://www.mughalmuesli.com.
Join PLG Arts at Erv’s, 2122 Beekman Place, just off Flatbush & Maple: “The best hidden gem this side of Prospect Park….Got you covered with original cocktails (always rotating) and stellar espresso during the day.”
*“From a small galley kitchen tucked into a corner at Erv’s, [Fred] Hua creates made-to-order summer rolls and rice noodle dishes, which change a little bit every day, combining fresh and pickled vegetables and a rotating list of proteins; recent options include cured salmon, braised pork and fried tofu.” —DNAinfo
