Leaves of Grass Marathon: Writers read Whitman (while sipping cocktails)
Greenlight and PLG Arts are thrilled to partner with our neighbors at Erv’s to host a marathon celebration of Brooklyn poet Walt Whitman’s masterwork, Leaves of Grass. Dozens of writers and friends read aloud the complete work at PLG’s beloved bar, coffee shop and gathering spot, starting in the afternoon and continuing until closing (if necessary).
Confirmed readers include Alvaro Enrigue, Valeria Luiselli, Darcey Steinke, Rosalie Knecht, Martha Plimpton, Adam Sternbergh, Christiane Seidel, Ashley C. Ford, and many other local authors, business owners, literary world celebrities, and neighborhood characters — a diversity of readers befitting Whitman’s radically inclusive vision. Greenlight will offer copies of Leaves of Grass and related works for sale, with a portion of proceeds benefitting a local Whitman-friendly nonprofit, and Erv’s offers its own signature beverages for sale, including the “Leaf of Grass.”
