Glad Irys is a new jazz quintet put together about a year ago by Alex Weiss (saxophones and composition). Together, they are Aaron Novik on clarinets, Dmitry Ishenko on bass, Joe Hertenstein on drums, and Yana Davydova on guitar. Alex Weiss has performed and recorded with Wadado Leo Smith, John Tchicai, Ches Smith, and many others. He has been playing saxophones and composing music for more than 35 years.
The other band members have played, composed, and performed for as long as Alex. They share recordings and the bandstand with countless musical heavy hitters throughout the world, including Steve Lacy, Ravi Coltrane, Leo Genovese, and Butch Morris.
