Art Lillard’s Blue Heaven, a swing sextet, comes to Erv’s, 2122 Beekman Place, right off Flatbush. Performing an extensive repertoire of standards and originals, the band features top New York jazz players Kenny Pexton on tenor sax, Jon Mark McGowan on trumpet, Lolly Bienenfeld on trombone, Andy Friedberg on guitar, Ralph Hamperian on bass, and Art Lillard, bandleader, on drums.
The group plays a variety of standards and not-so-standard swing and blues numbers, written by such luminaries as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, and Lester Young, as well as original tunes by Lillard and some of his musical colleagues. Blue Heaven recently performed to an audience of over 200 enthusiastic listeners and dancers at the Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza.
