The Hidden Mothers Project is an initiative by The Rhythm Method to bring the music of historical women composers into the public consciousness. This inaugural Hidden Mothers performance will present little-known works by Florence Price, Amanda Maier-Röntgen, Amy Beach, and Elizabeth Maconchy, as well as a premiere performance of The Rhythm Method’s “Suffragette Songs,” which reset song texts from the early 20th century women’s movement.

With “stunning displays of fearsome extended technique and fearless programming” (New York Music Daily) and “uncompromising and unreserved . . . intense, and sensuously gestural” performances (examiner.com), The Rhythm Method strives to reimagine the string quartet in a contemporary, feminist context. The four performer-composers of The Rhythm Method continually expand their sonic and expressive palette through the use of graphic notation, vocalization, improvisation, and performance.  They are slated to release its debut album, featuring new works by Leah Asher and Marina Kifferstein, on SCRIPTS Records in 2019.

I Have Considered The Lilies – Gaya Sings Connie:
Disappearing in 1974, folk musician and songwriter Connie Converse left behind a unique, wistful and haunting body of work that for many years remained unheard. Gaya found Connie earlier this year, and sat with her songs as they delicately unfolded. Amidst stories and melodies beautifully interwoven, it is an immense pleasure to relive Connie’s enigma through Gaya’s blooming reimagination. Born in the heart of Tel Aviv, New York based musician and vocalist Gaya Feldheim Schorr creates and performs jazz and creative contemporary music, deconstructing her wide array of musical influences to conjure up her enchanting original voice.
“Kat Lee writes transportive songs that penetrate and linger. Otherwise found fronting the Brooklyn rock band Tiny Gun, here she conversely performs a batch of songs in their stripped down and raw forms, adding to the imbedded intimacy of their compositions. She is joined by multi-instrumentalist Jesse Bielenberg on semi-baritone guitar and vocals.”
