Last year, Mychal Denzel Smith launched his debut book Invisible Man, Got the Whole World Watching at Greenlight in Fort Greene; the book went on to become a New York Times Bestseller and New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice. Now Greenlight neighbor Smith brings his memoir to our new Prospect Lefferts Gardens location to celebrate its paperback release. In Invisible Man, Got the Whole World Watching, Smith chronicles his personal and political education during the last decade – the years of the first black president, and the years of the murders of Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Akai Gurley, and too many more – and his efforts to come into his own in a world that denies his humanity. Smith presents his memoir, with a wine reception to follow. For every copy of Invisible Man, Got the Whole World Watching sold at this event, Nation Books will donate one copy to NYC Books Through Bars, a volunteer-run collective that sends free books to incarcerated people across the country.
