Yuma Uesaka is a New York-based saxophonist, composer, and educator from Detroit, Michigan. A versatile improvisational composer and player, Yuma has created music with Tyshawn Sorey, Kendrick Scott, Andrew D’Angelo, and Jeff Lederer recently. He is an alumnus of 2016 Banff International Jazz and Creative Music Workshop. Yuma received his bachelor’s degree in Jazz and Contemplative Studies at the University of Michigan, where he studied under Geri Allen, Robert Hurst, Andrew Bishop, and Ellen Rowe. Yuma is now active in the creative music scene in NYC, both as a saxophonist and a composer. In performing with his quartet, Yuma aims to express selflessness through group interplay and beauty in the intricacy of the compositions.”
